About this course

The safe use of a full body harness is paramount when working at heights using Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPs). The IPAF Harness Use and Inspection course provides operatives, supervisors and managers with a thorough understanding of how to use and inspect harnesses in a safe and effective manner.

The IPAF Harness Use and Inspection course covers the following:

  • Legislation, regulations, standards and guidance regarding the use of a harness
  • Hierarchy of fall protection measures
  • Harness lanyard and fittings
  • Pre-use checks
  • Fitting and adjusting
  • Usage and anchor points
  • Storage and maintenance
  • Hazards and precautions
  • Rescue requirements and options

Who this course is for

This course is designed for any operative, manager or supervisor who uses, or oversees the use of, a Mobile Elevating Work Platform(MEWP). Using a full body harness is strongly recommended when working from MEWPs.

It is important that all delegates have a good understanding of spoken and written English.

Certification

Delegates who already hold an IPAF PAL card will have it endorsed with this qualification. Delegates who do not already hold an IPAFPAL card will receive an IPAF certificate.

This course is delivered through a mixture of theory and practical exercises.

Additional Information

Delegates will need to bring their own harness and lanyard to be used in demonstrations.

Entry Requirements

It is important that all delegates have a good understanding of spoken and written English and have the operating experience as described in the ‘Introduction’ of this course overview. Candidates must have passed the CSCS H&S touch screen test within two years of taking the CPCS technical test.
