This course aims to provide delegates with a thorough understanding of the hazards associated with the use of abrasive wheels and inform them of their responsibilities under the Provision and Use ofWork Equipment Regulations (PUWER) in the safe mounting of abrasive wheels and discs on portable machinery.

The Abrasive Wheels Awareness course covers the following:

  • Legal requirements and responsibilities
  • Hazards: identification and causes
  • Safe working areas
  • Selection of correct machinery and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Methods for marking, storing, handling and transporting equipment
  • Mounting and using discs
  • Machinery checks

Who this course is for

This programme is designed for any person who may be required to select and mount an abrasive or diamond wheel in the workplace or requires familiarisation with the associated regulations.

It is important that all candidates who attend this course have a good understanding of spoken and written English.

Certification

Construction Skills People accredited certificate or NPORS Card/Certificate. If National Plant Operators Registration Scheme(NPORS) accreditation is required NPORS registration is £35.00 per person.

Assessment

This course is delivered through classroom-based tutorials, which include demonstrations and practical exercises in the selection and mounting of abrasive wheels and diamond wheels. Please note: this course does not include the cutting of materials using abrasive or diamond wheels.
